Permission is hereby granted to the Lao-Oxford-Mahosot Hospital-Wellcome Trust Research Unit (LOMWRU) at Mahosot Hospital, represented by Dr. Manivanh Vongsouvath, Director of the Microbiology Department, Mahosot Hospital, Lao PDR, to access and utilize aliquots of human blood and oropharyngeal swab samples.
The samples will be used for research conducted under the project entitled "Finding Treatments for COVID-19: A Phase 2 Multi-Centre Adaptive Platform Trial to Assess Antiviral Pharmacodynamics in Early Symptomatic COVID-19."
The project has received ethical approval from the National Ethics Committee for Health Research (NECHR), Ref. No. 40/NECHR, dated 30 April 2026. The use of the samples is also governed by the Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) between Mahosot Hospital, Lao PDR, and the Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Thailand, dated 18 April 2023.

The Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) has been established between the Lao-Oxford-Mahosot Hospital-Wellcome Trust Research Unit (LOMWRU), Microbiology Laboratory, Mahosot Hospital, Lao PDR, and the Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU), Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Thailand, dated 18 April 2023.
A total of 14,100 sample tubes were collected, comprising 4,200 human blood aliquot tubes (0.5–2 mL per tube) and 9,900 oropharyngeal swab tubes (0.5–1 mL per tube).

1. The applicant shall share the research findings and any resulting publications with the local project partners and the Lao Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) Authority to ensure appropriate acknowledgment of the providers of the genetic resources.
2. This permission is granted solely for the research project described above and shall not be construed as authorization for any other research, use, or purpose.
3. If any further research or experiments involving the genetic resources or the digital sequence information (DSI) derived from those resources are intended for commercial purposes, the Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU), Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Thailand, shall notify the Lao ABS Authority and the local project partner in advance to negotiate and establish a new Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) agreement in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
4. The applicant shall acknowledge the Lao People's Democratic Republic as the country of origin of the genetic resources in any publications, databases, or other outputs generated from the use of the genetic resources or any digital sequence information (DSI) derived from them.

The collected samples from this research project will be transferred out of the Lao People's Democratic Republic for molecular analysis using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) instruments and data analysis software at the Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU), Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Thailand.
